ANIMAL ADOPTION DAY
ALL ADOPTIONS FREE FROM 10AM-4PM. FIRST VET VISIT FREE WITH SHEA COOPER, DVM.
BOOTHS, FOOD, PRIZES, AND MORE! SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2014 AT SIREN COVE BEACH PARK.

Coop's satisfied with the turnout today. He's been working on this event with Dylan for weeks and now that he's had the chance to talk to Les about what's going on with Joel, he feels a little more at ease. Not by a lot, friend-devouring demon on the loose and what not, but still, knowing they have some extra help has proven to be better for his sleeping patterns.
Besides, it's kind of hard to let his mind wander to darker things like that when he's watching kids points out their favorite puppies and kitties and bunnies and begging their parents for the chance to take them home. He's seen familiar faces and met brand new ones, a majority of them eager to get his advice on what's best to feed their new family addition, what the best heartworm medication is, what the best grooming tips are, all sorts of shit that he answers with ease with a giant grin on his face because this is what he loves doing. Watching little fluffballs bring joy to people's faces, it never gets old.
He can see Dylan assisting a couple with one of their older gals, a four-year-old Basset called Hettie who's the sweetest thing but hasn't had much luck in finding a forever home. Coop watches with a faint smile, pleased at the attention the dog's so deservedly getting, and doesn't really register that someone's tapping on his shoulder until it starts to feel more like they're jabbing him. He turns with a raised eyebrow, smile still intact because he's nice like that.
"Hi, yeah, what can I do ya for?"
[OOC: Feel free to use this as a gathering. Or an excuse to come harass this dumdum.]

He goes looking for Coop to see if she's already been claimed. Spotting him from afar, he tries to catch his eye with a small, awkward wave.

She looks up, just in time to see a cute, awkwardly lanky boy wave in her general direction.
Mira glances around at the hundred other people he could be waving at. She's pretty sure it's not at her, but she tilts her head at him questioningly just in case.

As he drops his wave, he spots someone tilting her head at him. He's not sure if he recognises her. Maybe?
She's petting one of the pitbulls, which instantly makes him like her. Pitbulls are so often overlooked. He's very defensive of them.
He walks over, overly conscious of his walk. (Why does he walk so strangely? All he think of as he walks over is "I'm walking weirdly, I'm walking weirdly")
"Hi!" He says with faux confidence. "Isn't he gorgeous?"

Maybe he was waving at her? Who knows. Mira smiles as the boy comes over. "Hi." She looks down at the dog, still thumping its tail against her leg. "He's a sweetheart. I possibly shouldn't have come," she adds apologetically, "I can't take anybody home, but. I wish I could. Can you rent a dog for a day?" She ruffles the pitty's ears.
"I'm Mira," she offers.

"That's a shame, but I understand. Dogs can be a lot of work. Poor pitbulls almost never get adopted. Maybe I should talk to Coop about that. Not renting a dog, but maybe people could come and play or take them for a walk."
Dylan pets the dog's head.
"How would you feel about that?"
no subject
"Nice to meet you, Dylan." She puts her hands in her jacket pockets, for lack of knowing what to do with them. Naturally she's a little more formal, herself.
"It's not even that, really, it's my parents. My dad grew up that dogs don't come in the house, he loves them but they're outside pets. My mom doesn't agree, but she's kind of scared of big dogs, so we've just agreed not to have one. But when I find a place, some year..." she laughs. She lights up at the idea of taking them out. "That'd be sweet. I can't really volunteer because my schedule rotates, but on a day by day basis I'd totally come in and give these guys some love."
no subject
"Ah I see. I'm sorry about that."
His face drops slightly.
"I've just realised that I've asked to adopt a dog without asking my sister or her boyfriend"
He looks worried for a second, and then chuckles.
"Oh well. If I have to put up with her boyfriend, they can put up with a puppy. And puppies are less messy and a lot cuter."
no subject
"It's okay, I'm pretty used to it." She shrugs, easily.
She laughs. "Who could resist actual puppy eyes? Not a fan of the bf, I take it."
no subject
He laughs.

Mira nods in agreement. "I've got a younger sister and I feel the same way. She's away at college, though, so her love life, such as it is, isn't in my face all the time. Which I'm sure is good for both of our sanity. I like to think she appreciates the concern but that miiight be wishful thinking." She grins.

He pauses.
"Anyway yeah, so I'll talk to Coop about people volunteering to come cuddle and walk the dogs - and maybe cats! Well probably not walk the cats, they would refuse but..." He trails off.

Coop wouldn't say he necessarily has a type but if he does, it's most definitely not married people. A big reason why he's backed off on even flirting with Joel is because he'd tied the knot with Spencer, and Coop's not that big of an asshole. He's only moderate levels of asshole.
He excuses himself with an apologetic smile, a kiss to the cheek, and the promise of seeing her at Coco's next visit to the clinic before speedwalking over to where Dylan's standing with one of the dogs up for adoption, a gorgeous greyhound that Coop himself would love to take home if he didn't think his own dogs would kill him first. "Dylan, my man," he greets, grinning as he approaches and kneeling down to scratch the greyhound behind her ears. "Looks like you found a new friend."
no subject
"Indeed! I think... I mean, would it would be possible for me to adopt her to do you think? I realise I work her and this day isn't for me to start taking the animals home but I've kind of fallen in love with her"
He looks at Coop with slightly begging, Bambi eyes.

Coop doesn't know much about Dylan other than the guy's always seemed shy and not the most comfortable in crowds but as far as he can tell, Dylan's a good kid. At the very least, he's good with animals and in Coop's book, that goes a hell of a long way.

"So can I take this girl home with me?" He chuckles a little nervously, realising how that came out.
