ANIMAL ADOPTION DAY
ALL ADOPTIONS FREE FROM 10AM-4PM. FIRST VET VISIT FREE WITH SHEA COOPER, DVM.
BOOTHS, FOOD, PRIZES, AND MORE! SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2014 AT SIREN COVE BEACH PARK.

Coop's satisfied with the turnout today. He's been working on this event with Dylan for weeks and now that he's had the chance to talk to Les about what's going on with Joel, he feels a little more at ease. Not by a lot, friend-devouring demon on the loose and what not, but still, knowing they have some extra help has proven to be better for his sleeping patterns.
Besides, it's kind of hard to let his mind wander to darker things like that when he's watching kids points out their favorite puppies and kitties and bunnies and begging their parents for the chance to take them home. He's seen familiar faces and met brand new ones, a majority of them eager to get his advice on what's best to feed their new family addition, what the best heartworm medication is, what the best grooming tips are, all sorts of shit that he answers with ease with a giant grin on his face because this is what he loves doing. Watching little fluffballs bring joy to people's faces, it never gets old.
He can see Dylan assisting a couple with one of their older gals, a four-year-old Basset called Hettie who's the sweetest thing but hasn't had much luck in finding a forever home. Coop watches with a faint smile, pleased at the attention the dog's so deservedly getting, and doesn't really register that someone's tapping on his shoulder until it starts to feel more like they're jabbing him. He turns with a raised eyebrow, smile still intact because he's nice like that.
"Hi, yeah, what can I do ya for?"
[OOC: Feel free to use this as a gathering. Or an excuse to come harass this dumdum.]

Davin really just came to play with all the animals.
He'd love to have a pet, but he works so much that he doesn't think it'd be fair to it. But then he sees a couple of kittens playing with each other and he lingers. Cats are cool. They're chill and independent. Maybe if he got two they could keep each other company when he wasn't there...
No, Davin. Walk away.
Almost as fun as playing with the animals and eating greasy food is watching Coop get hit on repeatedly by soccer moms and dudes and girls who barely look eighteen. Okay fine, everyone hits on Coop. He hasn't seen him since the night he saved him from that ghost and took him home, but the whole ordeal definitely left him with a soft spot for the guy.
He's playing with a little poodle mix when he notices someone bothering Coop, asking all sorts of dumb questions and not realizing that the pleasant look on Coop's face is entirely forced. Davin deals with uppity customers all day. He knows what I want you to fuck off but I can't tell you to fuck off so I'm smiling looks like. He kisses the dog's head and sets him back in his pen before wandering over to Coop and tapping him on the shoulder.
"Excuse me, sir?" He asks in an innocent tone, eyes all big and earnest. "Could you help me with that darling poodle over there?"
Coop saved him once. The least he can do is return the favor.
[ooc: non-coop people! if you'd like to tag davin, please do! you can find him wandering around being adorable with animals before he goes to bother everyone's fave vet~]

He holds a finger up at Lyndsey before gesturing at Davin, apologizing with as much false sincerity as he can muster before promising to come back as soon as he's available and taking Davin by the arm to whisk off to anywhere else. "Jesus fucking Christ, I could kiss you right now," Coop tells him, shaking his head as he runs a hand through his hair. He cautiously glances over his shoulder, just in time to catch sigh of Lyndsey looking like she's ready to rip someone's face off as she spins on her heels and stalks away, shouting for her young son to join her. "Goddamn winner, I'll tell you, man."
He lets out a harried sigh before turning back to Davin and plastering on a more genuine smile. "So dude, what's up? No encounters with any ghosts in the woods this week, right?"
no subject
He smiles at Coop with a little shrug. He hadn't really been planning on coming to this event, but he felt like he suddenly need to be surrounded by happy little balls of fur clamoring for attention that he was more than willing to give. He thought it might cheer him up, and it did. "Did you set this all up? It looks like everythin's goin' pretty well, aye?"

He's so into this little ball of fur that he doesn't even realize that someone is standing there until they're speaking to him and he looks up to see Raleigh standing over them. He grins up at her and nods his head.
"Hey, you. How've ya - argh!" The puppy has climbed up Davin's chest to lick his face and he catches the little guy around the middle, laughing as it reaches up to plant his paw against Davin's cheek. "You're gonna get snapped up in about five minutes now, aren't ya?"
The puppy has clamored up onto Davin's shoulder to chew on his ear and he lets out a laugh/wince as he looks up at Raleigh. "Gotta love the puppies."

The signs for the adoption day are all around town and it's the puppies that do her in in the end. She never could resist a dog's face, and she figures Coop can't want to murder her too much if she's holding an adorable ball of fluff, so. She goes. She walks into the park quietly and it's already a buzz, full of families with kids and people wanting to find the next member of their family. For a moment she seriously considers actually adopting herself, but she still doesn't know how long before she gets forcibly hustled out of this town. It can't hurt to play with them, anyway.
Head in the grass asleep, she finds this little guy and it's like that's all she even came for. She can't help herself, she crouches down and tickles his tummy, receiving a warm lick to the hand in response, and suddenly she's happy just to sit in the grass and play with him all day, regardless of who may or may not be running this whole thing.

The shit that's been going on with Joel and being busy at work have kind of been massive distractions, and he's glad for that because he's pretty goddamn sure he'd be sitting at home thinking of her day in and day out if he hadn't had an actual separate life to contend with; but she's here now and it's not like he can turn around and just walk away. Besides that, they're going to have to talk again eventually, especially if she really does plan on staying here.
There's a part of him, maybe the smarter part, that tells him he should just leave her be. He should let her come to him if she wants but then again, he knows she wouldn't and it's not because she's necessarily afraid of what he'll say, it's because the last time they'd talked, he'd asked for the space. She's respected for a month now, and Coop can't deny that he doesn't appreciate that. So he sighs, rubbing his palms against his jeans before steeling himself enough to walk over to her.
"His name's Cooper," he says, unable to help his wry smile. "One of the managers at the shelter found him and her six-year-old named him after me. Anyway. Hi."

And right now? Right now she's thinking about the new friend she's made, the dachshund that's hopped (and flailed) it's way up into her lap, and she can't help the way she smiles as she ruffles his ears, and maybe she's not able to bring a dog into her life right now, but she could volunteer to help give them some love.
She doesn't really want to get up, not with how cozy her new friend seems to be, but what gets her up is when the dog - who she's sure has a name, but she's been thinking of as Fern, because it's a nice name - suddenly launches herself off of Raleigh's lap and strains at the end of her leash. It's not Coop that she's going for - it's the woman talking to him, the harried woman who apparently lost her dog months ago because she let her out without her leash like usual, and she just hadn't ever come back home.
Raleigh's pulled towards the woman, and she abruptly exclaims Dottie! and drops to her knees to hug the dog who's wagging her tail so much in happiness that she's wiggling, and Raleigh looks up at Coop with wide eyes and raised brows, slipping the leash off her wrist to offer it to the lady, if she'd take it.
"Hey," she says a minute later when she's now leashless and the woman's still snuggling her newly-found dog. "You having a good day? Seems like she is," she says with a tip of her head to the woman with a smile.
[ooc: If you're not coop, feel free to tag Raleigh sitting on the steps snuggling the Dachshund, or after when she's dogless! :3]

Janelle has been looking for Dottie for three months now because no matter how many goddamn times Coop had advised against it, she lets the dog out with a collar and unsupervised to do her business every morning and evening. It was bound to happen sooner or later, that Dottie would just end up staying gone, and Coop hadn't been all too surprised when Janelle had showed up at the clinic begging for his help but he'd gone out to search the neighborhoods with her and put up flyers around town because he knows how difficult it is to lose a pet. It's like losing family, actual family, and he's not a cruel enough person to rub it in her face that she should have kept a better eye on her dog.
It's a lesson she won't have to learn twice, he's sure of that just looking at the way Janelle's crying into Dottie's fur and hugging him even though he'd really had nothing to do with the reunion before she offers a grateful smile to Raleigh and walks away to find her husband. Coop turns to Raleigh, letting out a little laugh as he shrugs.
"I mean, yeah, a day of smiling faces is a good day, right?" He hasn't seen Raleigh for longer than five minutes in a while and now that's got a good look at her, he thinks she maybe looks kind of tired. He'd stopped in to get a little something at Orchard House to show his support but it had been so busy that they hadn't really had more than a moment to chat so he can't really blame her; he's been busy trying to find a way to make sure his friend--her roommate, and Coop wonders if she knows what's been going on with Joel--doesn't like, die via demon or some shit, so he's a little less energetic lately himself. "How's things at the bakery, are you rocking a crazy profit yet or what?"

As they pass the park, Corrine pauses, motioning for Will to stop and jogging a few steps back. "Should we check it out?" She grins, removing her earbuds. "I bet 'Siren Cove royalty' could help get some pets adopted."
no subject
Realising Corry had stopped behind him, Will turned and slowed down before jogging back towards her. Realising what she was looking at, Will raised an eyebrow at her before smiling.
"We're not adopting a Cat," Will informed her. Cats didn't like him that much, they tended to think he was food or hissed at the fact that he radiated predator in his siren form. Pulling his shirt up over his head, Will wiped down the sweat sheen off his body before grinning at Corry. "Think this will help people come over to adopt?"

"Sorry beautiful one, I have a very jealous cat who would likely curse you for trying to hog all my attention." Tonio murmured, carrying the pup close to his chest as he tried to find where he had come from and who he belonged to. Scratching the pup, he let it lick his cheek as he carried it back over. "Does he belong to anyone?"

Luke tries to have a look at the pup. "He's going to be gorgeous though. Are you sure about your cat? Were you even talking about a real 'cat'?"

She leaned back against a stand with an armful of bunny, and watched as a cheeky kitten practically leapt at Osha who carefully fell to the ground and played dead while the kitten padded at her nose. It was beyond cute.
She grinned and turned to the stand operator. "Where can I make a donation?" It was the least she could do really after spending the morning playing with the animals.

"That Patty," he says, loud enough for her to hear, and he can see Patty's shoulders shaking just slightly as she busies herself with a family of four who are pointing out one of the bunnies. "Anyway, Lara, light of my life, moon and stars or whatever all that shit is, it's been like fifty years. I can take your donation but I demand that it also come with a hug. And if you wanna sneak in a quick peck, I promise I won't tell the mister."

"Cinderella, what are you doing here?" She eyes the cat warily, debating whether to suck it up and scoop her up and find Bach or keeping a safe distance before the terrifying feline swipes out her eye with a talon. ...Claw. Something sharp and terrifying. "Don't you have someone who misses you?"
And she is talking to a cat. Obviously coming here was a bad idea. At least Will is distracted with a dog so her cant see her like this.

He goes looking for Coop to see if she's already been claimed. Spotting him from afar, he tries to catch his eye with a small, awkward wave.

She looks up, just in time to see a cute, awkwardly lanky boy wave in her general direction.
Mira glances around at the hundred other people he could be waving at. She's pretty sure it's not at her, but she tilts her head at him questioningly just in case.

Coop wouldn't say he necessarily has a type but if he does, it's most definitely not married people. A big reason why he's backed off on even flirting with Joel is because he'd tied the knot with Spencer, and Coop's not that big of an asshole. He's only moderate levels of asshole.
He excuses himself with an apologetic smile, a kiss to the cheek, and the promise of seeing her at Coco's next visit to the clinic before speedwalking over to where Dylan's standing with one of the dogs up for adoption, a gorgeous greyhound that Coop himself would love to take home if he didn't think his own dogs would kill him first. "Dylan, my man," he greets, grinning as he approaches and kneeling down to scratch the greyhound behind her ears. "Looks like you found a new friend."
